Akool founder and CEO Jeff Lu details the evolution of his generative AI platform, which specializes in video translation, avatar creation, and real-time video generation. After leaving Google Cloud in 2022, Lu transitioned from pursuing large enterprise contracts to a hybrid model serving both prosumers and enterprise clients. The platform now generates approximately half a million assets daily, with recognized revenue reaching $25 million in 2025 and projections to double in 2026. Unlike general-purpose foundation models, Akool utilizes specialized, smaller models fine-tuned for specific tasks like human generation and face swapping to maintain cost efficiency and high-quality output. The company, which has raised $10 million in capital, continues to focus on overcoming technical bottlenecks in long-form video production while maintaining a lean team of 60 to 70 employees.
