The Jubilee line's original terminus at Charing Cross was abandoned just twenty years after its 1979 opening due to shifting urban priorities and logistical constraints. Initially designed to relieve pressure on the Bakerloo line by separating the Stanmore and Watford branches, the route was intended to extend east through the City. However, the rapid redevelopment of the Docklands and Canary Wharf necessitated a higher-capacity connection that bypassed Charing Cross in favor of a smoother approach through Westminster, Waterloo, and London Bridge. Maintaining a branch to Charing Cross was rejected to avoid operational delays and reduced frequency on the main extension. Today, these "ghost" platforms serve as a vital testing ground for tunnel repairs, a popular filming location for major productions like *Skyfall*, and a historical site for guided tours, illustrating how infrastructure must adapt to changing city landscapes.
