AMC Theatres is getting into the movie distribution business with Leawood Films, creating another potential path for fully financed or completed independent films to reach movie theaters.

In Episode #126 of The Silly, Nerdy and Wordy Podcast, I share my thoughts on what AMC’s move into film distribution could mean for independent films, filmmakers, theatrical releases, and movies that might otherwise receive limited releases, go directly to streaming, or struggle to reach theaters.

I also get a little nerdy about the different paths independent films can take from film festivals to theaters and streaming—and how AMC could potentially give moviegoers more choices beyond major studio blockbusters.

What do you think about AMC getting into movie distribution? Would you like to see more independent films get a chance on the big screen?
