Your board thinks the niche you picked is targeted. Gary Frazier thinks it's still millions of customers wide — and that's why your brand awareness is zero.

Gary Frazier is former chair of the Department of Marketing at USC's Marshall School of Business, where he led the department twice across three decades. He's spent fifty years teaching, consulting with founders and Fortune 500 operators, and serving as an expert witness in over 120 legal cases on marketing strategy and channels. His latest book is "Marketing and Channel Management for Low Brand Equity Firms."

In this conversation with LeanScale co-founder Anthony Enrico, Gary unpacks why most founders' niches are five orders of magnitude too broad, why the layered SDR-AE-CSM sales org is on its way out, why the C-suite stopped trusting the CMO around 2000, and what marketing needs to do to take its seat back in the AI era.
