Huberman Lab

The Huberman Lab podcast is hosted by Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., a neuroscientist and tenured professor in the department of neurobiology, and by courtesy, psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford School of Medicine. The podcast discusses neuroscience and science-based tools, including how our brain and its connections with the organs of our body control our perceptions, our behaviors, and our health, as well as existing and emerging tools for measuring and changing how our nervous system works. Huberman has made numerous significant contributions to the fields of brain development, brain function, and neural plasticity, which is the ability of our nervous system to rewire and learn new behaviors, skills, and cognitive functioning. He is a McKnight Foundation and Pew Foundation Fellow and was awarded the Cogan Award, given to the scientist making the most significant discoveries in the study of vision, in 2017. Work from the Huberman Laboratory at Stanford School of Medicine has been published in top journals, including Nature, Science, and Cell, and has been featured in TIME, BBC, Scientific American, Discover, and other top media outlets. In 2021, Dr. Huberman launched the Huberman Lab podcast. The podcast is frequently ranked in the top 10 of all podcasts globally and is often ranked #1 in the categories of Science, Education, and Health & Fitness.

Essentials: Using Meditation to Focus, View Consciousness & Expand Your Mind | Dr. Sam Harris

23 Jul 2026
40m
AI processed

The "self" is a persistent psychological illusion, functioning as a mental construct rather than a localized region in the brain. Dr. Sam Harris argues that most individuals operate under the false assumption of being a subject internal to their body, constantly narrating their experiences. True meditation transcends m...

Essentials: The Science & Treatment of Bipolar Disorder

16 Jul 2026
35m
AI processed

Bipolar disorder involves significant, maladaptive shifts in energy, mood, and perception, typically manifesting as either Bipolar I, characterized by extended manic episodes, or Bipolar II, which involves shorter hypomanic periods often alternating with deep depression. These conditions stem from neural circuit hypera...

How to Improve Your Memory & Cognitive Function at Any Age | Dr. Alan Castel

13 Jul 2026
2h 28m
AI processed

Memory functions as a reconstructive process rather than a static recording, making "desirable difficulties"—such as struggling to recall information or making errors—essential for deeper learning. Cognitive aging is not an inevitable decline; instead, it is heavily influenced by curiosity, physical activity, and perso...

Essentials: The Science & Treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

09 Jul 2026
35m
AI processed

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) affects 2.5% to 4% of the population and ranks as the seventh most debilitating illness globally, driven by a cycle where compulsions provide only fleeting relief for intrusive, recurrent obsessions. This condition is rooted in dysfunction within the corticostriatothalamic loop, a ne...

Essentials: The Science of Eating for Health, Fat Loss & Lean Muscle | Dr. Layne Norton

25 Jun 2026
37m
AI processed

Energy balance and utilization depend on complex metabolic processes rather than simple calorie counting. While calories represent units of heat, their actual impact on body composition varies based on the thermic effect of food, with protein requiring significantly more energy to metabolize than fats or carbohydrates....

Science of Attraction, Compatibility & Romance | Dr. Paul Eastwick

22 Jun 2026
2h 50m
AI processed

Attraction and relationship stability are driven less by rigid evolutionary "marketplace" dynamics and more by the slow, idiosyncratic accumulation of shared experiences. While initial impressions often prioritize superficial traits like physical attractiveness or status, lasting partnerships emerge from unique, recipr...

Essentials: Improve Flexibility with Research-Supported Stretching Protocols

18 Jun 2026
36m
AI processed

Flexibility and stretching rely on a complex interplay between motor neurons, muscle spindles, and Golgi Tendon Organs, which collectively manage muscle contraction and safety. The insula and von Economo neurons in the brain further regulate these processes by integrating interoceptive signals, allowing for the modulat...

Essentials: Sleep Toolkit for Optimizing Sleep & Sleep-Wake Timing

11 Jun 2026
39m
AI processed

Optimizing sleep requires aligning daily behaviors with the 24-hour circadian rhythm to regulate cortisol, metabolism, and melatonin. Viewing bright sunlight within 60 minutes of waking triggers a necessary morning cortisol spike and sets the internal clock for sleep onset later that night. Core body temperature serves...

Eating for Better Sleep & Foods that Improve Metabolic Health | Dr. Marie-Pierre St-Onge

08 Jun 2026
1h 57m
AI processed

Sleep and nutrition share a powerful, bi-directional relationship that dictates metabolic health and hormonal regulation. Insufficient sleep triggers sex-specific physiological responses, increasing ghrelin in men and reducing satiety-inducing GLP-1 in women, which leads to increased caloric intake. Conversely, dietary...
