The press covers President Trump as the weak party at this week's U.S.-China summit. Low polls, gas prices, Iran. The coverage leaves out what Xi Jinping did on his way to Washington.

Days before the trip, Xi expelled two of China's top generals, Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli, for disloyalty to the party. Zhang served as vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and ranked among Xi's closest allies. The purges leave the commission with two active members: Xi and the man running his investigations. More than 45 Chinese generals and admirals have gone missing in two years.

Peter Schweizer and Eric Eggers lay out the numbers Beijing stopped publishing. China's economy is on pace for its slowest growth since 1991. Total debt sits near 300% of GDP. Domestic car sales fell 20% from a year earlier. Housing sales fell 14%. Business confidence and real estate data went dark.

Then the agenda. Trump wants help on Iran. China, the largest backer of the Iranian regime, lost its discounted oil from Iran and Venezuela and has drawn down its reserve for six months. On AI, Peter walks through the COVID record: the NIH grant terms, the Wuhan lab biosafety protocols, the WHO access commitments. China signed each one and broke each one. An AI agreement with Beijing binds the United States and nobody else.
