Is Shopify Payments the same as Stripe? Not exactly.

While Shopify Payments uses Stripe's payment infrastructure, there are important differences in fees, payout holds, account control, and payment processing flexibility that every Shopify merchant should understand.

In this video, I break down the differences between Stripe and Shopify Payments, including how using multiple payment processors could help recover declined sales, why Shopify's additional transaction fees matter, and what happens when your payments are put on hold.

Here's what I'll cover:

- Shopify Payments vs. Stripe: Why having Shopify Payments isn't the same as having your own Stripe account.

- Using two payment processors on Shopify: How eligible merchants may be able to recover declined transactions and reduce checkout disruptions.

- Shopify's additional transaction fees: How using an outside processor could cost you an extra $1,000 per month on $100,000 in sales under Shopify's US Grow plan.

- Payment holds and reserves: What happens when Shopify Payments or Stripe holds your funds, and who you need to contact.

- Choosing the right payment processor: When Shopify Payments makes sense and when Stripe or a dedicated merchant account may offer greater flexibility.

For established ecommerce businesses, choosing a payment processor isn't just about convenience.

Your approval rates, transaction fees, and access to your funds can directly affect your profitability.
