The natural gas turbine market faces unprecedented demand, with major OEMs like GE Vernova, Siemens, and Mitsubishi sold out through 2030-2032. Driven by the massive power requirements of data centers, this backlog has created a "let a thousand flowers bloom" environment for alternative technologies. While established players struggle to scale, smaller modular units under 3 megawatts, aeroderivative engine retrofits, and supercritical CO2 cycles are attempting to fill the supply gap. Despite current pricing surges—reaching $1,900 to $2,500 per kilowatt—long-term market health remains tied to the tension between rising demand and the competitive cost of renewables. Tony Brough, President at Dora Partners and Company, notes that while these non-traditional solutions offer immediate bridge power, logistical complexities and potential market cooling by 2028 suggest a shift toward a more consolidated, albeit still robust, long-term landscape.
