Deploying AI data centers in space requires a shift from traditional ground-based infrastructure to specialized satellites optimized for power generation and thermal management. By utilizing solar array and radiator technologies derived from the Starlink constellation, these satellites can support significant compute loads, with initial designs targeting 150 kilowatts of peak power. Scaling this infrastructure to a terawatt of annual capacity necessitates the development of a massive "TerraFab" facility, dwarfing current manufacturing footprints. Beyond orbital deployment, long-term strategies include establishing lunar production sites and utilizing electromagnetic mass drivers to launch hardware into deep space, bypassing the limitations of traditional rocket transport. This roadmap aims to exponentially increase global AI compute capacity while moving toward a Kardashev Type II civilization, leveraging the vast, underutilized environment of space for high-density processing.
