Boosting Testosterone & Understanding Your Testosterone Levels (Aging, Muscle Growth & Nutrition)
Perform with Dr. Andy Galpin
Testosterone levels in men are primarily governed by metabolic health and body composition rather than chronological age. Contrary to common belief, total testosterone does not inevitably decline with aging; instead, obesity and metabolic dysfunction drive the majority of observed drops. Clinical data indicate that individuals maintaining optimal metabolic markers—such as healthy blood pressure, glucose levels, and waist-to-hip ratios—rarely suffer from clinically low testosterone. Furthermore, while extreme caloric deficits can acutely suppress testosterone, these effects are typically reversible upon recovery. Effective management requires multiple fasted morning blood tests to account for diurnal rhythms and environmental stressors, rather than relying on a single snapshot. While testosterone replacement therapy can improve body composition and sexual function, it is not a universal solution for fatigue or vitality, and its administration necessitates careful monitoring of hematological markers like hematocrit to avoid cardiovascular risks.
