The traditional investment framework for Asian fixed income is increasingly constrained as US policy rates remain higher than much of the region, leading to a 62% decline in dedicated Asia credit fund assets since 2021. While Asia dollar credit faces shrinking supply and tight valuations, the region's underlying fundamentals remain robust, with nominal GDP projected to reach $54 trillion by 2031 and industrial investment hitting its strongest cycle since the mid-2000s. Investors should pivot to a broader "APAC fixed income" map that integrates Japan, Australia, convertible bonds, and local currency corporate credit. This diversified approach allows for strategic flexibility: convertible bonds capture growth through equity links, while currency-hedged local bonds provide a hedge during recessions. Analysis indicates that such a multi-asset APAC portfolio can target a 7.5% return with approximately 4% volatility, offering a more resilient toolkit for navigating shifting dollar cycles and diverse economic conditions.
