AEE: Do Aliens Exist? How to Connect Over Extraterrestrial Life

Extraterrestrial life serves as a frequent, engaging topic in American culture, often sparked by government UFO disclosures and popular science fiction films. Navigating these conversations requires balancing personal beliefs with social connection, particularly when opinions on the existence of aliens or their visitation of Earth differ. Using shared cultural touchstones like movies provides a natural entry point, while phrases such as "What I'm not sure about is..." allow for the expression of uncertainty without creating conversational friction. Respectfully acknowledging skepticism or differing perspectives fosters meaningful dialogue rather than debate. Additionally, while "alien" is standard for extraterrestrial beings, its historical use regarding human immigrants is now considered outdated and exclusionary, necessitating the use of more inclusive terminology in modern communication.
