Lenny's Podcast
The role of the Product Manager is undergoing a fundamental transformation, shifting from administrative oversight to active "AI building." By leveraging AI tools, PMs now accelerate product development through tasks like prototyping, automated code contributions, and data-driven evaluation. At Atlassian, this evolution is supported by the "Teamwork Graph," which provides essential organizational context, and "AI Builders Weeks," which cultivate technical fluency. While the core objective—achieving product-market fit—remains constant, the execution has changed; PMs now oscillate between "rowing" (hands-on technical contribution) and "steering" (strategic unblocking and direction setting) based on project phases. By automating routine tasks like documentation and feedback triage, PMs can focus on high-leverage activities that significantly increase throughput, ultimately enabling faster delivery of secure, enterprise-grade features while maintaining a deep connection to customer needs.
