In Tuesday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley review Andy Burnham’s first Labour Party conference speech as Prime Minister. They discuss the list of expensive promises made by the PM, including his announcement of a National Care Service, new legislation to allow councils to acquire empty homes, and a pledge to scrap the triple lock pension after the next election.

Camilla and Tim clash over Burnham’s emotional anecdotes about his late father when discussing social care and the NHS – debating whether it was “performative politics” or predominantly moving and relatable. They also discuss the Prime Minister’s desperate desire to return to the 1970s, his dislike for Margaret Thatcher, and the “rose-tinted glasses” through which he sees Gordon Brown’s legacy.

Plus: are labradors and ale really part of a “far-Right” fantasy that “never really existed”, as one Labour minister protests?
