Jason, the rightful heir to the throne of Iolcus, embarks on a perilous quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece to reclaim his kingdom from his uncle, Pelias. With the guidance of Hera and Athena, the shipwright Argus constructs the magical vessel Argo, crewed by a legendary team of heroes including Heracles, Orpheus, and Atalanta. The voyage faces immediate challenges, including a lengthy, distracting stay on the island of Lemnos and a tragic battle against the Doliones caused by a case of mistaken identity during a storm. Tensions regarding leadership arise among the ambitious crew, eventually resolved by the intervention of the sea god Glaucus. Ultimately, Heracles departs the mission to fulfill his own destiny, leaving Jason to lead the remaining Argonauts as they continue their journey toward the Black Sea.
