In this episode of What Chiropractic Doesn't Cure: Stories of Innate, host Jenna Quentin sits down with Dr. Lona Cook, a chiropractor, speaker, author, and coach from Wisconsin. They discuss trusting the body, patient engagement, and the deeper energetics of chiropractic care. Dr. Lona shares powerful patient stories, insights on communication, and reflections on the chiropractor’s role in healing.

🔹 The Teacher with a Chronic Cough – A teacher struggled with a chronic cough, which disrupted her daily life and teaching. After chiropractic adjustments targeting subluxations in her neck, the cough disappeared. However, under stress, it briefly returned, showing the connection between the nervous system and healing.

🔹 Trusting the Body & Taking the Driver’s Seat – Dr. Lona and Jenna discuss how symptoms are the body's way of communicating. Jenna shares her own journey with childhood-onset migraines and how shifting her mindset, hydration, and nutrition helped reduce them. Recognizing the body's intelligence allows patients to take ownership of their healing.

🔹 Childhood-Onset Vertigo & Emotional Triggers – Dr. Lona shares the story of a patient who experienced vertigo from a young age. Through chiropractic care and reflection, they discovered the symptom’s onset coincided with a traumatic family event. This highlights how physical symptoms can be tied to emotional experiences.

🔹 What It Means to Hold an Adjustment – Holding an adjustment is key to long-term results. Dr. Lona explains how chiropractors assess when a patient needs an adjustment and how well their body maintains it over time. Understanding these patterns helps determine care frequency and effectiveness.

🔹 Engaging Patients in Their Healing Process – Chiropractic care isn’t passive. Dr. Lona discusses the importance of patients actively participating in their healing through lifestyle choices, mindset shifts, and consistency in care.

🔹 Energetics & Building Rapport – A strong doctor-patient connection and clear communication are crucial for effective care.

🔹 Understanding the Chiropractor’s Role vs. the Patient’s Role – Chiropractors provide the adjustment, but true healing happens within the patient. Dr. Lona reflects on the importance of setting clear expectations and allowing patients to take responsibility for their health.

🔹 Mirroring & Reflecting the Energy We Put Out – Dr. Lona discusses how the energy we bring to situations shapes our experiences. Whether in patient care or personal life, what we put out is often what we receive back.
