In today’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley speak to Andrew Lownie, the royal historian and author, about the impact of Earl Spencer’s memoir, in which he claims King Charles made disparaging remarks about Diana, Princess of Wales, in the days after her death. They discuss whether the fallout from his claims and the Palace’s unprecedented response speaks to a wider existential crisis affecting the institution. Camilla and Tim also ask Lownie about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s current life “in exile” as he waits for the long-running police investigation into him to conclude, as well as news that Prince Harry is working on a documentary to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of his late mother. Elsewhere, as the United Nations summit takes place in New York, Camilla and Tim look at the points of disagreement between Andy Burnham and Donald Trump as the leaders meet face-to-face for the first time.
