North Carolina Tar Heels shake up college basketball after firing Hubert Davis and landing NBA champion Michael Malone as head coach. Can Malone, who lacks Tar Heel ties but boasts elite NBA credentials, restore UNC’s blue blood dominance and thrive in the transfer portal era?

Isaac Schade and Andy Patton break down the Tar Heels’ roster overhaul, spotlighting Jarin Stevenson’s leadership, a dynamic new backcourt with Matt Able, Neo Avdalas, and Terrence Brown, and questions surrounding international big men like Aleksandro Samodurov and Sayon Keita. Key talking points include roster continuity concerns, schedule analysis featuring high-major showdowns against Arkansas and Kentucky, and predictions for UNC’s path in a loaded ACC. Can North Carolina’s new coaching era meet sky-high expectations—or will growing pains set in early?
