Happiness consists of three essential macronutrients: enjoyment, satisfaction, and meaning. Rather than a fleeting emotion, true happiness requires actively pursuing these elements while accepting that unhappiness and suffering are inevitable components of a fully lived life. Enjoyment arises when animal impulses are elevated by moral aspirations, while satisfaction is the joy derived from accomplishments earned through struggle. Meaning provides the "why" of existence, often found through faith, family, and service. Pursuing worldly idols—money, power, pleasure, and honor—as primary goals often leads to bitterness, as these metrics are arbitrary and fail to provide lasting fulfillment. Instead, individuals should focus on deepening relationships and living in accordance with their values. Ultimately, the path to a great life involves integrating these elements and embracing the full range of human experience, including the challenges that foster personal growth and moral clarity.
