The global financial system is undergoing a structural transformation—a "Great Financial Reset"—comparable to the 1970s, as the current techno-economic paradigm of semiconductors and networks reaches maturity. This shift is driven by the emergence of programmable money and dollar-backed stablecoins, which facilitate peer-to-peer value transfer and automate complex legal and financial contracts. While the U.S. dollar retains its status as the world’s most decentralized currency through deep liquidity and entrenched network effects, geopolitical fragmentation and the rise of machine-to-machine commerce are creating new pressures. Marieke Flament and Nicolas Colin, co-authors of *Currency of Power*, argue that this transition mirrors historical periods where technological revolutions necessitated the reinvention of financial infrastructure. As compute replaces oil as the primary economic commodity, the integration of smart contracts into financial rails will fundamentally reshape how capital is managed, deployed, and regulated globally.
