If Your Program Lacks These 5 Things, Fix It

Podcast cover

Dr. Milo Wolf

Muscle-building programs often fail because they are designed for an average person rather than an individual's specific goals, schedule, and priorities. Effective training requires a needs analysis to determine whether to solve for time efficiency or fatigue management. Time-constrained individuals should utilize supersets and machine-based movements to maximize stimulus, whereas those managing fatigue should focus on higher volumes and strategic proximity to failure. Volume and proximity to failure remain the primary drivers of hypertrophy, with weekly set targets ranging from 2 to 40 depending on training status and goals. Furthermore, exercise selection must prioritize loadability, stretch emphasis, and stability to ensure regional muscle growth. By aligning these variables with personal constraints, trainees can move beyond generic routines to build a program that reliably produces results.
