While traditional debt levels remain manageable, these massive commitments for data centers, power agreements, and semiconductor procurement represent a fundamental shift toward capital-heavy business models. Meta and Google, in particular, utilize financial guarantees that effectively function as debt, raising concerns about long-term sustainability. This transition from asset-light to asset-heavy operations limits corporate flexibility, locking these firms into long-term liabilities that require consistent, high-growth revenue to service. Ultimately, these obligations represent a significant, albeit currently manageable, risk profile change for companies historically characterized by pristine balance sheets.
