The surge in adult neurodivergence diagnoses reflects a societal shift in understanding autism and ADHD, moving away from historical stigma toward greater self-awareness. While this recognition empowers individuals to seek clarity, it places immense strain on healthcare systems, resulting in years-long waiting lists and a critical lack of post-diagnostic support. For many, a formal diagnosis provides essential validation and self-forgiveness, yet the process often fails to address underlying systemic struggles. Masking—the exhausting, cognitively draining effort to mimic neurotypical behavior—remains a pervasive, invisible challenge that frequently leads to burnout. Effective support requires moving beyond diagnostic labeling to implement practical workplace accommodations and foster peer-led communities. These initiatives are vital for shifting the focus from "fixing" individuals to creating environments that allow neurodivergent people to thrive rather than merely survive within structures designed for neurotypical norms.
