In late August, China’s Standing Committee of the National People's Congress passed a major revision to its National Defense Mobilisation Law, set to take effect on October 1, 2026. This marks the first major overhaul of the legislation since its official enactment in 2010.

The revised legal framework significantly expands the law to 14 chapters and 82 articles, explicitly outlining a mechanism to transform the country's peacetime. Underscoring this transition, China’s National Development and Reform Commission has already established a new Comprehensive Department of National Defense Mobilisation ahead of the law's implementation.

Join host Han Yong Hong with Lianhe Zaobao’s Taipei correspondent Zong-Han Miaw as they examine the details of China's defense law overhaul and what this strategic pivot means for Cross-Strait relations.
