The AI data centre boom in South East Asia

The global AI boom is driving an unprecedented surge in data center construction across Malaysia, positioning the country as a critical regional hub. However, the rapid development faces mounting local resistance, centered on the immense environmental burden—specifically the high consumption of water and electricity—and skepticism regarding the promised transfer of technical skills to the local workforce.
