The APEST framework—comprising Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Shepherds, and Teachers—functions as a cohesive "movement engine" essential for church growth and impact. This fivefold model operates in a cyclical pattern: Apostles initiate movements through planting, Prophets provide protection and alignment, Evangelists drive expansion by inviting others, Shepherds cultivate the inner experience and maturity of members, and Teachers establish foundational stability through truth. While the modern Western church often stagnates in a state of tradition by over-prioritizing the teaching and stabilizing phase, a healthy movement requires a return to the apostolic planting phase to maintain innovation. Tim Morris, an ICF certified coach and founder of Design Discovery, leverages his experience coaching leaders to help individuals identify their primary gifts within this matrix to move the kingdom forward and avoid institutional stagnation.
