By cultivating "sense-free thinking," he sought to access super-sensible knowledge, asserting that human consciousness can directly perceive the spiritual essence underlying the material world. His work extended beyond philosophy into practical domains, including the establishment of the Waldorf school movement, biodynamic agriculture, and anthroposophical medicine. Steiner’s worldview centered on the evolution of human consciousness, which he viewed as a struggle against the opposing forces of Lucifer—leading to spiritual inflation—and Ahriman—promoting cold materialism. Through his life’s work, he aimed to harmonize these extremes, positioning the Christ event as the ultimate model for achieving balance and true freedom within the human soul.
