Kazakhstan's oil industry faces a severe crisis as Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure have triggered a 50 to 70 percent reduction in output from major fields like Tengiz and Kashagan. Because landlocked Kazakhstan relies on Russian ports like Novorossiysk for three-quarters of its exports, the destruction of processing facilities and loading tanks has paralyzed its primary trade route. Ukrainian forces have expanded their targeting to include shadow fleet vessels, extending the time tankers must remain stationary and vulnerable at docks. Alternative export routes through China or the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline lack the capacity to compensate for these losses, leaving over one million barrels per day potentially offline for the duration of the conflict. This disruption significantly impacts global energy stakeholders, specifically Chevron, Exxon, and Lukoil, with little prospect for a near-term recovery of previous export volumes.
