The AI readiness gap: When adoption comes before velocity - Dimitri Vlachos | PlatformCon 2026
Platform Engineering
The 2026 Infrastructure Automation Report reveals a critical "AI readiness gap" where rapid AI-driven development by software teams significantly outpaces the governance capabilities of infrastructure departments. While 90% of developers have integrated AI into their workflows, infrastructure teams face mounting pressure to maintain reliability despite lacking standardized AI policies. Currently, 86% of these teams report confidence in governing AI, yet only 30% have formal policies, resulting in frequent unreviewed code deployments and a 93% incident rate linked to AI-generated infrastructure. With 89% of organizations planning to adopt agentic AI soon, the industry must prioritize full infrastructure-as-code (IaC) automation, implement proactive governance frameworks, and track specific AI-performance metrics. Addressing these challenges is essential for balancing the speed of AI-assisted development with the stability and security requirements of production environments.
