MadeGood: Salma and Nima Fotovat Lost Their First Business. They Grew Their Next One Into a Snack Giant.
How I Built This with Guy Raz
Nima and Salma Fotovat transformed their deep manufacturing expertise into MadeGood, a leading organic, allergen-free snack brand. After a forced exit from their family’s previous business in 2012, the siblings leveraged their extensive knowledge of supply chains and production to build a vertically integrated company. This control allowed them to guarantee allergen-free safety while scaling rapidly across North America. Their growth strategy relied on a "say yes" approach to retail demands, such as creating complex multi-product SKUs, which established their reputation for reliability. By positioning their products as family-friendly rather than just kid-focused, they successfully disrupted the snack market. Despite challenges like product recalls and the failure of secondary brands like Good2Go, the Fotovats maintained a commitment to quality and data-driven innovation, ultimately building a company with hundreds of millions in annual sales.
