This transition complicates traditional valuation metrics, as companies like Meta, Amazon, and Google report earnings heavily influenced by unrealized gains in AI startups like OpenAI and Anthropic. These hyperscalers face a potential demand crisis, as they currently rely on intra-company revenue—essentially selling compute to the very AI labs they fund—rather than end-user demand.
