In the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1, the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) alliance won 25 seats, taking control of the state from Pakatan Harapan (PH). PH, led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, won only 11 seats. Notably, Transport Minister and secretary-general of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Anthony Loke lost his Chennah seat, marking his first electoral defeat since entering politics in 2004.

With PH’s component parties struggling to secure Malay votes, how will this rising conservative "blue wave" affect the stability of the federal government?

In this episode of Global Heartbeat podcast, host Han Yonghong discusses these key political developments with Dr. Phoon Wing Keong, political observer and chairperson of the Huayan Policy Institute.
