Fei-Fei Li on Spatial Intelligence and Robotics

Spatial intelligence represents the next frontier of AI, focusing on the ability of models to generate, understand, and interact with three-dimensional environments. World Labs, led by Fei-Fei Li, is developing large-scale world models to facilitate this capability, recently acquiring SceniX to accelerate progress in robotics. Co-founder Yunzhu Li’s work centers on a "real-to-sim-to-real" pipeline that maps physical environments into digital worlds, allowing for scalable, safe, and efficient training and evaluation. By utilizing simulation for counterfactual reasoning and systematic randomization of physical parameters, this approach overcomes the data scarcity and safety bottlenecks inherent in traditional robotics development. This integration moves beyond language-only models, providing a robust infrastructure for robots to operate reliably in semi-structured environments like warehouses and, eventually, complex, unstructured spaces.
