Cats may be famous for chasing mice, but did you know they actually have a rather refined palate? In this purr-fectly hilarious episode of Wow in the World, Mindy and Guy Raz step into the busiest cat café ever created to uncover the surprising science behind why our feline friends go absolutely bonkerballs for tuna! From roller-skating waiters to mushy tuna bowls, this adventure is packed with outrageous restaurant chaos, fascinating taste science, and a dining room full of very hungry cats!

When Mindy opens the doors to Tuna Time, her brand-new tuna-themed diner for neighborhood cats, business is booming! As plates of sloppy tuna fly out of the kitchen and cats keep asking for refills, Mindy reveals that the menu is inspired by a fascinating new scientific discovery about why cats find tuna so irresistibly delicious.

Kids and families will sink their teeth into remarkable research published in the journal Chemical Senses, where scientists investigated how cats experience the savory taste known as umami—often described as the "essence of deliciousness." By studying feline taste receptors, the researchers discovered that cats receive an especially powerful umami boost from amino acids found in foods like tuna, making these flavors incredibly appealing. The episode also explores how this differs from the way humans experience umami, why cats can't taste sweetness the way we can, and how scientists hope these discoveries could help create tastier cat food—and even medicines that picky cats will actually want to eat.

Packed with laugh-out-loud restaurant disasters, surprising animal biology, delicious food science, and plenty of feline fun, this episode serves up an unforgettable helping of curiosity while showing how understanding the senses of animals can lead to healthier, happier pets.
