Wage statistics rarely make for compelling reading, but the figures released by Taiwan's Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics in July have given policymakers something to point at. Average monthly regular wages, which cover base pay and fixed allowances while excluding bonuses and overtime, reached NT$49,216 in May, up 2.95 percent from a year earlier and the second-fastest growth for that month in 27 years. Once inflation is stripped out, real regular wages over the first five months of 2026 rose 1.27 percent, the biggest gain for the period in six years.

薪資統計向來不是什麼吸睛的題材，但行政院主計總處 7 月公布的這組數字，總算讓官方有東西可以拿出來講。5 月經常性薪資平均達新台幣 49,216 元，年增 2.95%,是 27 年來同月份次高的增幅。經常性薪資指的是本薪加上固定津貼，不含獎金與加班費。剔除物價因素後，今年前 5 月實質經常性薪資年增 1.27%，創 6 年來同期的新高。

The engine behind this is not hard to identify. Artificial intelligence has driven demand for Taiwanese electronic components and optoelectronics, and the resulting revenues have filtered through to payslips in the form of overtime, performance bonuses and year-end payouts. DGBAS census official Tan Wen-ling has repeatedly attributed the momentum to AI-related sectors, noting that firms elsewhere have also raised wages simply to hold their ground in a tight labour market.

背後的推力不難理解。人工智慧撐起了台灣電子零組件與光電產業的需求，營收成長最後透過加班費、績效獎金與年終獎金，回到員工的薪資單上。主計總處普查處副處長譚文玲多次把這波動能歸因於 AI 相關產業，同時指出人力吃緊之下，其他產業也只能跟著調薪，才留得住人。

Look past the averages, however, and a less flattering picture emerges. Because a handful of very high earners can skew the mean, the median is the more honest gauge: it stood at NT$39,426 in May, roughly NT$10,000 below the average. In 2025, 69.74 percent of employees earned below the average monthly salary, the highest proportion on record and up from 66.8 percent five years earlier. Accommodation workers averaged NT$34,961 a month; those in food services, NT$36,709.

不過只要跳過平均數往下看，畫面就沒那麼好看了。少數高薪者足以把平均值拉高，中位數才是比較誠實的指標：5 月經常性薪資中位數為 39,426 元，比平均值低了將近 1 萬元。2025 年有 69.74% 的受僱者薪水低於平均月薪，比例創歷年新高，5 年前是 66.8%。住宿業員工月薪平均 34,961 元，餐飲業 36,709 元。

The gap looks structural rather than temporary. Electronic components posted average annual pay of NT$1.33 million last year, with finance and insurance close behind, while traditional service industries have all but stalled. Real total wages, which include bonuses, grew 1.37 percent in the first five months, down from 1.67 percent a year earlier, partly because some firms pushed Dragon Boat Festival bonuses into June. Tan has cautioned that energy prices could yet feed into inflation, and whether real pay keeps rising depends on wages outpacing prices.
