GE Aerospace Chairman and CEO Larry Culp addresses the company's strategic positioning and the future of aviation technology during the Farnborough Air Show. The company is currently managing a massive multi-year backlog, highlighted by a recent order for over 1,000 engines from Indigo Airlines, which has sold out production capacity into the early 2030s. To meet this demand, GE is executing a significant manufacturing ramp-up, achieving a 30% year-over-year increase in engine deliveries through aggressive supply chain collaboration and targeted organic and inorganic investments. A central focus of future development is the "open fan" architecture, which Culp argues will provide the necessary step-function improvement in fuel efficiency and maintenance costs required for the next generation of narrowbody aircraft. Despite rising oil prices, robust global travel demand continues to drive high volumes for both new engine manufacturing and the high-margin aftermarket services business.
