Ed Zitron: The AI Bubble is Bleeding Cash, Here Are The Receipts

Podcast cover

The Monetary Matters Network

The AI industry operates as a massive, unprofitable bubble fueled by speculative debt rather than genuine economic demand. Major labs like OpenAI and Anthropic report billions in losses, masking their true financial state through creative accounting and inflated sales and marketing categories. Much of the reported compute demand is circular, as hyperscalers subsidize these labs, which then funnel that capital back into the hyperscalers' own infrastructure. Furthermore, the promise of agentic AI remains unproven, as large language models cannot reliably perform deterministic business tasks. With no clear path to profitability and a reliance on "token-maxing" that is already meeting resistance, the sector faces a looming correction. Ed Zitron, author of *Where's Your Ed?*, argues that this cycle of hype and capital-intensive experimentation serves to enrich a few while leaving retail investors and corporate adopters vulnerable to an inevitable collapse.
