Mixed-race individuals, such as Elisabeth Hunter, Miranda, and Elianna Hansen, navigate the tension between their local upbringing and the persistent "othering" they encounter, where their belonging is constantly questioned based on appearance. This exclusion is often masked by a societal emphasis on sameness, forcing many to internalize racism or feel like outsiders in their own countries. To combat this, new community-led initiatives like the VaVa collective are emerging, providing essential spaces for representation and dialogue. These efforts allow individuals to reclaim their narratives, challenge narrow definitions of national identity, and find support, ultimately fostering a more inclusive understanding of what it means to be Scandinavian today.
