Personal AI assistants require a fundamental shift in hardware form factors to move beyond the limitations of current smartphone-centric ecosystems. Apple’s recent AI strategy, while system-integrated, remains constrained by traditional app-based interaction models and a lack of "AI-native" infrastructure. Dong Hongguang, CEO of LightSail, argues that true AI agents need "always-on" capabilities and multi-modal sensors—such as those integrated into smart earphones or watches—to provide seamless, proactive assistance. Unlike the current smartphone model that relies on manual app navigation, the next generation of AI hardware must achieve native cloud-service integration and cross-platform data orchestration. This transition, while currently in its early adopter phase, will eventually redefine human-computer interaction by automating mundane tasks and enabling proactive, context-aware support that current mobile devices cannot effectively deliver.
