Acceptance & Change - Ep 701

Podcast cover

Finding You: with Dr. Brad Reedy

True personal transformation stems from a paradoxical acceptance of one's current self rather than a desperate attempt to fix perceived flaws. Symptoms and "rotten" traits often function as essential survival mechanisms; attempting to forcibly remove them without deep understanding frequently leads to denial and recurring dysfunction. Genuine growth requires the patience to "sit in the hot seat," listening to the pain and anger of others without resorting to defensiveness. By taking full responsibility for one's own serenity and acknowledging that unconscious projections are the primary obstacles to peace, individuals move beyond superficial behavioral changes. This process involves integrating one's shadow, as illustrated by the Gnostic insight that what is not brought forth from within will ultimately destroy the individual. True healing is not about becoming "good," but about becoming conscious enough to hold space for one's own and others' humanity.
