Claims circulating on social media that 400 churches have been "burnt to the ground" in various Western countries are largely inaccurate and stem from the misinterpretation of crime statistics. In France, the figure actually represents a broad range of incidents including theft, graffiti, and electrical issues, with only two churches confirmed as destroyed by arson over several years. Similarly, the 400 "hostile acts" reported in the US include non-violent incidents like flag removals or protests, affecting only a tiny fraction of the nation's 350,000 congregations. While Canada saw approximately 24 deliberate church fires following the discovery of unmarked indigenous graves, this remains far below the viral claims. In Nigeria, where violence is extreme, data from ACLED and Open Doors indicates that both Christians and Muslims are targeted in complex conflicts over land and resources, suggesting that framing the situation as purely religious genocide oversimplifies a multifaceted humanitarian crisis.
