Paranoia as Narcissistic Self-enhancement

Podcast cover

Prof. Sam Vaknin

The collapsed female narcissist maintains a fragile, narrative-based self-concept, often casting herself as a moral crusader or superhero to mask deep-seated feelings of failure. This self-image requires constant validation through narcissistic supply, which, when lacking, triggers a shift toward alloplastic defenses and externalized blame. Aggression is frequently sublimated into "prosocial" causes, allowing the individual to justify antisocial or criminal actions as necessary punishments against perceived "evil" forces. As somatic assets like physical appearance fade with age, these individuals often adopt delusional, self-imputed identities to sustain their grandiosity. This dangerous intersection of victimhood and entitlement inevitably leads to a cycle of reckless behavior, social isolation, and eventual decompensation, as the individual becomes increasingly blinded to reality in a desperate, obsessive pursuit of long-overdue adulation.
