Anxiety bags, also known as panic pouches or calm-down kits, have emerged as a viral trend among Gen Z to manage acute anxiety and panic attacks. These portable kits typically contain items that engage the five senses—such as sour candy, essential oils, fidget toys, or breathing exercise cards—to ground individuals during moments of high distress. Research indicates that 61% of people aged 18 to 26 report a diagnosed anxiety condition, with nearly half experiencing monthly panic attacks. While some initially dismiss these tools as self-indulgent, they serve as proactive coping mechanisms that offer immediate, physical intervention when traditional therapy or medication is inaccessible. Beyond the physical contents, the trend reflects a broader cultural shift toward prioritizing mental health awareness, destigmatizing vulnerability, and fostering supportive communities where individuals can openly share their experiences to validate their feelings and reduce isolation.
