He outlined the people's core consensus — that Taiwan and China are not subordinate to each other, that sovereignty cannot be infringed, and that the island's future belongs to its people alone. Lai warned that destabilisation of the Taiwan Strait would reverberate through global supply chains and the world economy. Washington has not publicly responded.
