Engineering management requires a fundamental shift as AI-driven coding tools move bottlenecks from raw throughput to verification, cross-functional review, and system maintenance. Traditional long-term planning and rigid code ownership models are increasingly obsolete, replaced by Just-in-Time planning and rapid prototyping. Effective teams prioritize "shift-left" automation, where AI handles style, linting, and testing, allowing humans to focus on high-level product sense, security, and complex technical trade-offs. Maintaining a flat organizational structure and requiring managers to remain hands-on through dogfooding ensures agility and team alignment. Success in this new paradigm is measured by reduced onboarding ramp-up times, accelerated PR cycle times, and the integration of AI-assisted commits into every stage of the development lifecycle. This evolution demands a constant re-evaluation of team norms to ensure processes continue to serve their intended purpose rather than becoming stagnant administrative burdens.
