Liberal democracy faces significant challenges as the global political landscape shifts toward authoritarian models and internal polarization. The concept of the "end of history" refers to the progressive evolution of human society toward market-based liberal democracy, rather than a cessation of historical events. While China presents a durable, quasi-capitalist authoritarian alternative, the resilience of Western systems depends on maintaining constitutional checks and balances. Liberalism, defined by the rule of law and individual rights, currently struggles against the atomizing effects of radical individualism and the rise of identity politics. Both the extreme left and right have weaponized group identity, undermining the foundational ideal of a colorblind society. Restoring political health requires a renewed commitment to classical liberal values, prioritizing individual merit over group-based grievance to counter the erosion of democratic institutions and social cohesion.
