Want to Hire an AI Agent? Check Their Reputation Via ERC-8004

Podcast cover

Unchained

The Ethereum Foundation's ERC-8004 standard for establishing reputation for AI agents is explored with Davide Crapis, AI lead at the Ethereum Foundation. ERC-8004 includes registries for identity and reputation, aiming to enable trustless interactions between AI agents and services on the blockchain. It addresses the need for decentralized trust mechanisms in the emerging "internet of agents," preventing reliance on centralized platforms. The ERC-721 token is used to create an agent ID in the identity registry. The standard supports the creation of commerce networks where agents can sell services, with reputation built through reviews stored on-chain or IPFS. A validation registry is also being developed to provide independent checks on agent performance.
