Coaching Stakeholders

Podcast cover

Product Therapy

Effective product management requires shifting stakeholder relationships from a subservient "order-taking" model to a true partnership focused on outcomes rather than outputs. Stakeholders often default to requesting specific features because they lack trust in the product team's ability to solve business problems independently. Building this trust necessitates that product teams demonstrate competence by delivering measurable results and providing transparency through regular, lightweight check-ins. When stakeholders share business context, constraints, and direct access to data or customers, teams can better align their solutions with business needs. Finance and legal departments, in particular, must transition from funding project-based roadmaps to funding outcomes, allowing teams to experiment and iterate. Ultimately, success hinges on fostering a culture where both product teams and stakeholders share ownership of the problems, ensuring that technology solutions are both viable and effective.
