Optimizing Workspace for Productivity, Focus & Creativity | Huberman Lab Essentials
Andrew Huberman
Optimizing one's workspace to maximize productivity involves vision, light, and auditory environment. During the first nine hours after waking, bright, overhead lights and keeping the visual focus at or above nose level can maximize alertness. For sound, 40 Hertz binaural beats can be used to enhance focus and improve memory due to their effect on striatal dopamine. The height of the ceiling in the workspace can also affect cognitive processes; higher ceilings are better for creative work, while lower ceilings are better for detailed, analytical tasks. To avoid the negative impacts of prolonged sitting, alternating between sitting and standing throughout the day is also recommended.
