Global cooperation and trust in international systems are facing a crisis, as current institutions struggle to adapt to a rapidly changing world. Multilateralism, while essential, is often bogged down by bureaucracy and the pursuit of least objectionable outcomes due to the need for global consensus among a large number of countries. To rebuild trust and achieve ambitious goals, smaller "coalitions of the willing" should be formed. These dynamic groups, comprising diverse actors like countries, civil society organizations, and businesses, can act boldly and demonstrate effective models for addressing complex challenges such as AI governance, migration, and food security. The LEAF coalition, focused on reducing deforestation, serves as a successful example of this approach, highlighting the potential for 21st-century international cooperation.
